VTA ESC, motors, and batteries
What type of equpment do you guys run in the VTA class? 21.5 brushless is the class motor, right? What about your ESC and battery set-up? Is there a need for LiPos or do you run NiMH packs? Either way, what mah rating do you prefer? Is there a need for 3000+mah packs with 21.5T motors?
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

VTA Rules
The VTA rules can be found here:
http://www.usvintagetransam.com/rules/index.html
Most everyone runs the 21.5/ lipo option. You don't need anything more than a 3000, but 5000 is the upper limit. Most tracks run non-turbo/boost escs as well.
Note that the rules change on September 1 to 25.5 motors.

WE ARE STARTING WITH VTA,MOST ALL OF US HAVE 4 CELL NIMS & 27 STOCK BRUSHED MOTORS...
THERE IS WHERE I NEED HELP.
I GEAR WAY LOWER THAN STATED ON THE FORUM AND THE MOTORS WERE REAL HOT, OUR TRACK IS 100 X56...I WAS ON 27/72 ACCORDING TO WHAT I'VE READ ...SHOULD BE AT ABOUT32/72
WHATS THE KEY TO RUNNING 27 STOCK BRUSHED WITHOUT KILLING A MOTOR EACH RACE ?

In answer to your question....no great secret.....GEARING !! BTW, remember the rules change in September. Honestly you'd be much better off switching to the 25.5 motor now since you said most of you are running brushed. Good Luck and I hope we can get together for a little VTA action.

If they want to run 2s Lipo and 27 turn/17.5 turn motors then they want to run RCGT... send them over to HPI's website for the official rules.
Then they will all want to run open speedos with Turbo and Timing Boost, so send the over to Tekin's website with about $200 or so to spend.
Then they will all complain because the one guy who can actually drive that fast is a cheater and the class will die out.
And don't forget the new guys who freak out when they see the cars traveling as fast as the old 13.5 cars or who don't want to bring their laptop to just have fun. You won't draw any new racers to your club.
Now, i'm not trying bash on you or your club members, but we've found in Palm Bay that newer racers just can't drive that fast and don't have fun. And the two of us who can drive that fast don't have fun running 3 or 4 more laps than them every race. Our testing, along with the guys in Canada, have proved that the 25.5 (which is slower than 4-cell/27 turn and 2s/21.5) has evened the playing field, brought fun back to the track and is going to draw in new racers to our Vintage Trans Am and Vintage Oval program. The slower speeds put the fun back in driving.
If your guys don't want new people and would like to risk losing the current group of less-skilled drivers, then open speedo/RCGT will be perfect.

Pejota, you beat me to it !!
Sorry Buckshot....wasn't a real answer to your question. Darkside really did give you the answer. Your motor is working to hard at the gear ratios you've been running. Try the 72/35 and see if it helps.

Any chance that the USVTA rules will be updated to include the new "Sportsman Spec" firmware/profiles that ROAR is approving? No timing advance/boost/turbo, etc.

Hey Buckshot
Good advice from pejota and Evo. VTA is only slow vs RCGT on the straights -- both are limited by tire grip in the infield and there's very little corner-speed difference between them. The key to enjoyable and challenging VTA racing is having a good track layout. Since you guys are "new," give some extra thought to how you layout your track. A sweeper that ends in a decreasing radius is a good challenge and provides a good risk/reward at the end of a straight. Esses are a good test of chassis transition and driver timing. A long constant radius turn tests car balance and driver throttle control. Sneak in an off-camber turn and see who has the patience to take it at the correct speed. Be devious.
If everyone can just drive around with the throttle clamped (VTA at Talladega?), you have the wrong track layout. If you just want to go fast in a straight line, run 13.5 TC with open speedos. You will go fast. If you want to have fun, attract new racers and keep your budget manageable, go VTA.
