Default What does this thing do for the gt7?

I was looking on tower hobbies site about info on the gt7 and found this thing:

There was no written information about it and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. There are a couple Novak factory drivers at my track and today one of them had a brand new GT7 sitting on their pit table and it had this part on it. But unfortunaitly he wasn't there today and the piece was just sitting with all his stuff because he leaves all his stuff at the track so I didn't have a chance to ask him what it does. So does anyone have any ideas?

Oh I see, what does that do for your car? Could you run it on any esc with external solder posts/tabs like a quantum competition or the cyclone? I know it makes it so you don't need to have a schokty diode on each motor but what does a schokty diode on your motor do for you in the first place? I'm trying to decide weather or not to put one on my esc's.
