CS 27 and general rubber tire questions
For the outdoor season pre glued CS 27 have been selected as spec tire at my local track. As many of the driver are going to nationals and this will be the same tire.
I am new to rubber tires and I was wondering what people are using for traction compound/cleaner?
Generally how many runs do you get out of the tires before grip/performance starts to decline?
What about drilling holes in the rim? How does this change the performance of the tire?

Well we all know Daves' a cheap bastard (LOL) but he's right on both accounts. Use a little wd40 about 15-30 minutes before the race. 5 minutes before race..wipe it off thoroughly. You will love cs27's!! I've found they prefer to be warm to get the best out of them so use tire warmers or be prepared to see better performance after a lap or two.
Check the glue before you run them...sometimes the factory misses a little so they need a little spot gluing.
if your car is tuned well,you should get alot of life out of a set. Depends alot on racing surface and how you have the car set up.
drilling rims is a balancing trick but I've never seen a set of premounted 27's need it.

CS27 are very good for med temp tires.Now as far useing traction compound WD-40 works,but you have to swipe clean before the race...paragon are good that it what I use..Wear on the tires ,it is depend on how smooth or rough the track is..I know CS27 last along time than pit tire or sorex..

Ran some today and you MUST run an additional bead of glue around the tire as I saw 2 other driver ruin a good set of tires when they came unglued in a few spots on the tire.

Just a note on sorex. I've done about 8 runs with them (sorex 32's) and my fronts are shot, I can see the belts on one of them. Rears are fine though.

How long should a pair of CS27's and CS32's last on a smooth parkinglot? I'd only be using them on the front since my sorex rears have great bite and are still fine.

I use Goop handcleaner for asphalt. Keeps your hands clean too

On the drilling part, I've never heard that is a balancing trick as you will need to drill a pretty big hole to balance a fully glued tire. I was gonna note that a bigger hole will release more air as the tire rotates which incase would act more as a deflated tire. A smaller hole will be the opposite and this is all used to get the right contact patch of the certain tire, not all tires need the same hole, sorex are thin and yokomo's for instance are thicker.

A lot of us at our local track use Take Offs. We run indoors on carpet, usually CS-27 in front, CS-22 in the rear. They are best new, but I have yet to ever completely wear a set out on carpet.
I would expect 27s to perform favorably outdoors. I would also expect them to have a decent life span.
I also recommend applying a bead of glue on the entire circumference of the rim. As much as I hate gluing tires (even pre-glued ones), I hate tires that come unglued even more.
As far as drilling the rims, I have never done it or seen it done. I always try to use Yokomo or Speedmind rims, and I just leave the stock hole “as is”.
