New layout for trophy events
What are your thoughts on when a layout should be put down before a trophy race at a LHS. 1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks? I know it's good to have some traction but is there a point when it becomes unfair for the people that don't live near the track and can't get there to practice on it?

Why give locals any advantage? Leave it as close to the event as possible imho, 2 weeks is plenty long enough for the grip to come up but not long enough for anyone to have too much wheel time unless they are there 24/7 lol.

I hear ya, the pro's would have more of a challenge on the setup throughout the meeting too when the grip comes up

I would say, it depends on how much effort it takes to do a new layout, i.e. 5 hours or 1 hour, but I do think 1 to 2 weeks before is sufficient.

For our two big carpet races here in Omaha we put in the layout the week of the event, club race on it thursday, open practice on friday, and start racing on saturday. At least for carpet racing, I feel that people are put off on traveling to an event if they know the locals (or people with too much vacation time) have been running the layout for a couple of weeks.

We typically like to put a new layout down a week before the event, that way with 2 club races on it there is decent traction to start for the big event. I personally would much rather show up to a track where the layout has been down and built a groove, as my limited practce that day would be useful to change any setup stuff needed instead of just running to help put in a groove.

I think 2 club races is perfect to get traction up without getting an unfair advantage. We try to do it on saturday and then race on it on sunday and thursday. For the regionals we did it the night before. We had to spray the track though. Would you go to a trophy race where the layout was down for 6 weeks?

i think 3 days before the race.
thats the fair thing to do.
you can spray the track.
