For those of you who expect the EnerG cells to have the same reliability as the older generation NiMH cells your wrong. There is no way to make the voltage as high and the IR as low and have the cells not selfdischarge fairly fast.

I can say that the EnerG cells selfdischarge a bit slower than the IB cells and that when they do go below 1 volt they don't lose as much runtime but they do lose some.


I believe we can release a cell that doesn't have the fast selfdischarge issue but this cell would have lower capacity and lower voltage with higher IR. I don't think many of you would like to give up the speed.

In mod classes I would discharge the pack down to .90 per cell then put 600 seconds of charge back in the pack when it's cooled down. This amount of charge should be good for 2 weeks.

when u say 600s of charge u mean charging them for 10min, right?

Thanks Danny for that heads up.

I have been going with 900-950 seconds per your instructions in the old 4200 battery packs. And that has usually been good for a week.

600 seconds...good for up to two weeks...will be welcome.

Over the past year and a half, I have gone from using the following for discharging and balancing...
1) GFX and Novak Smart Tray (good performance);
2) GFX and DPD (Fair performance until DPD started giving questionable data)

Yes 600 seconds is 10 minutes but after looking at my test sheets I noticed that some cells are getting close to 1 volt after 3 weeks with 1200 seconds.

Actually for 2 weeks to be on the safe side I would go with 900 seconds. I'm not sure if we can say that 1 week equals 400 seconds based on 3 weeks with 1200 seconds as the slefdischarge doesn't seem to be linear.

I'm in the process of testing selfdischarge rates and how long charge actually stays in the cells before they get below 1 volt and get damaged. This test will take some time as I need to let the weeks go by.

i take care of my nimh batteries in a fashion similiar to the ones posted above.
charge at 7 amp
pulse disharge after race
then tray them down to 0.09v
put back 500mhs
store them till next week race,i run the packs once a week,and i tray to 0.08 before race.
last season i have been using ib 4200,and i found out that:
i will cycle the new packs on gfx...6 amps.....35 amp dicharge.
after 5-6 weeks of race,i will cycle them again on the gfx.
on almost all my packs,the voltage will go up,the ir will be lower and i will lose only like 10 sec run time which is not a big deal.
so the numbers of a used pack for 5-6cycles will have a better numbers then a new pack ,yet the new one on the track will always be faster then theolder one,lap time wise.and this is not 1 or 2 packs,this is a repeated pattern.
any one noticed that or have some info to why?

I have 2 packs and they have over 20 cycles on them now and nothing but great #'s on and off the track.

havent run them yet but iv gone through them on my GFX
4 cells
with my ib cells the ave discharge V is about 4.70,on these Ener-G cells it's well close to 5.00 V
dont know if this is good or not but im sure they will work good on the track.
discharge at 35 A
to E i use a ctx-d

Not in his post, nor the post he responded to thats where.

Most people are well aware of the fact that the low IR and high voltage cells are going to self discharge at higher rates then their predecessors, so the obvious choice for what "issues" means is cell failure...not discharge...errrrrrrrr
