I'm fairly new to r/c racing except for the Associated RC10 buggy I bought and assembled about 15 years ago so sorry in advance for any dumb questions.

Anyway, I'm looking for a car kit that I can find to fit the new HPI Mustang body kit here:

I'd like to find an electric car kit in the range of $100 to $200, maybe a little more and I'd prefer to assemble it myself. I can't seem to find many kits that don't include a body as well.

For the most part, electric 1/10 cars are 190mm wide and nitro cars are 200mm wide.

HPI used to make electric cars that could be swapped to make them 200mm wide, but that was a long time ago.

The sad thing is that there are far more "cool" bodies available for 200mm than there are for 190mm. You can widen a 190 chassis a bit with spacers or offset rims, but it's pretty hard to get 5mm a side.

If you just want a "roller" for display, just buy any old used nitro chassis.

Just look out for some drift spec rims, the are available in offsets from 2mm to 10mm so you can go as wide as you want to fill those arches.

HPI RTR's come with 6mm offset rims. they look ok to me!

Now I just have to decide what car kit I want to go with. I don't even necessarily want a 4WD because I'm not interested in racing it. I just want something with working steering and a working drive train if I decide to install a motor and steering servos.

I was hoping to find a kit that I could assemble myself. It seems those are more expensive due to better components and the cheaper kits are already assembled.

I have an old Associated RC10 with a graphite chassis I even hoped I could possibly use some components from. Probably not possible.

The TA05 is a great car for the money. I don't think they have any of the standard kits in stock at the moment, but he can easily order you one.

The TA05R is also a SCREAMING deal for the money...it has just about every option available included. Build it and race it as-is.
