6-cells = 7.2V... what do you mean by 5.4V??
Even when cells are flat... they don't stay at 0V without load.
If you're talking about a storage charge, for when you put away your cells unused for a few weeks... just charge them for about 10 mins.

I actually have the Intellipeak Deluxe charger (which can charge NIMH). So WC, what you are saying is that I should just charge my battery at 4 amps for 10 minutes if im going to put them away for storage for a few weeks??

NiMh's Batteries do not like to stay below 0.9v/cell. Keep some charge in them during the off days.
As for charging, ANY R/C battery charger can charge NiMh batteries. All you're really concerned about is OVER-charging (getting them too HOT), which will shorten their life. NiMh's also do not like to be trickle charged, as they will continue to build heat during trickle mode.

-if you're not going to be using the battery for 1-2 wks, give it 10-20 mins charge @ 4A... about a 1/2 charge
-if its to be stored for longer say 1 mth then just give it a full charge before storing away.
