Which wire is better or which can handle more without melting.

12ga is larger than 14ga wire, so the large gauge wire can handle more current.

Here are the ohm-resistances of 6-inches wire, 12ga & 14ga:

12ga = .0016 ohms
14ga = .0025 ohms

There will hardly be any advantage of 12ga wire other than it looks cooler...
