difference in discharging amps

Can someone explain to me the difference in discharging at 10a instead of 30a. do you want a higher amp when you do it? What are the benefits and disadvantages of each. What is the best way? this is for ni-mh

I believe most do it at a higher amp rate to gauge run time of a pack...and also to quickly bring them down to equalize them...........It also conditions them?? not sure

With 30A your pack will be discharged about 3x quicker than 10A. So if it is just for discharging it doesnt really matter what current you take its just that an extremely high discharge current will cause a lot of heat on the cells so isnt that healthy.

For matching packs on the other hand, a higher discharge current will weed out the good cells from the bad cells better because you also get a higher voltage drop.

hmm.....

so wat discharging current do u recommend for stick packs like gp3700 and the ib4200wc stick packs

i have matched packs. So higher is better for matched only then?

like someone said the 30 amps just discharges faster thats all.

If all you are doing is pulling the packs down after a race, and all you have is a charger/discharger that does linear mode (constant current discharge), I would use the 10A mode. A 30A linear discharge will unnecessarily add heat to your cells. That's why dischargers like the Trinity DPD and Muchmore CTX-D use a pulse mode discharge for the 30A setting. The DPD uses 5A discharge for the linear mode. Obviously a matcher like the Turbomatcher uses 30A or 35A linear mode to help weed out weak cells, but for weekly maintenance, the 10A mode would be recommended for you.

thanks. someone told me that discharging at a higher rate was better besides the fact that it does it faster and i just wanted to clear that up.
