I've seen some mod racers with small fans attached to their motors. How are they wiring these? To the motor? I would think you'd want them to only run when the motor was to save juice. Anybody?

I am no expert in this field as I have never run a motor fan.
I would say that maybe you would run the power for the fan straight off the motor. This way it would only be getting power when the motor does.
Someone please correct me if I am being misleading...

I don't think that orion motor is out yet, but I may be wrong. It would be very easy just to put a tiny reciever pack (maybe lithion) in the car with a small on/off switch. If you attached it to the motor you'd suck juice from the main power.

People that are doing that with the TC3 are finding that it doesn't suck very much power - especially if it's a small fan (all that will fit, really).

What they were doing was connecting the leads to the ESC's motor tabs. This way the fan was running fastest at full throttle (when it needed it) and wasn't wasting power when it was sitting still.

What specs are these fans? 12V or less??

I borrowed a 2" one from a Pentium 1 cooler... but its rated at 12V. At 7V it doesn't like self-starting-up but if the blades are given a push, it'll spin up fine. At 12V it starts up itself fine.
