hey guys i have a bought a new shell for my car and it is pre painted so how do i go about drilling holes in the correct places for the body clips?? does anybody have any tips?

Just dab some diff grease onto the top of the body post, pop the body over the chassis in the correct place and ream/drill where the grease has stuck to the body.

But I know others that shine a really bright light up from underneath the chassis to locate where the body posts contact the body.

I just do it Stevie Wonder style and with firm pressure, try to feel where the posts are located. Some day, I might remember to mark the holes before I paint the body.

toothpaste. Put some over the body posts, locate the body and press.... better and cheaper than anything (unless you don't brush your teeth )

If someone has teh same car, and same bumper setup as you take off their wing and copy the holes

ott light trick works good for white or a bright body...

I have also used a paper hold puncher and puched out 4 holes in a 2 way tape strip and put them on the tops of the boddy post..

Using a dark diff grease works to, then you can measure a point of reference to make sure the holes are pefect

anything that goes on the body post and marks the body will work. diff grease, toothpaste, blood...

Chop out the top of an old shell (same make) that was mounted properly and transfer the centers of the holes from there. Keep this template for all future shells of the same make.

Check your front bumper/body mounts, too. If they are 'race hardened', it's probably time to replace them. This way the template will always work.

Just keep punching holes into it until its good enough then cut your wheel wells really large. That what I see done most often

i often have the issue of mounting my body too snugly on the chassis, talk about wheel rub.

lol i know a guy from my lhs that put his hole in the shell with an air rifle hope his aim was good.

i used some dif grease and a knife to put mine in not the neatest of body mount holes but it worked.

Trinity has no brainier body post markers. Thats what I use and they work great!

before i paint the shell i sit it on my chassis. making sure my wheel arches are in the right spot, making sure ive got the same clearance on each side. then with a permiant marker put a dot in the middle off the post on the shell. paint it etc....drill it or rheem it, peel the protective film off and there ya have it. the only 1s ive stuffed up are when i forget to mark it before i paint

hope this isnt to complex for ya to try. i dont like grease as paint doesnt like to stick to the residue and i dont like makin extra work of having to clean before paint
