Not an expert myself on bodies handling - never done a back to back, but a guy at my track borrowed my protoform S60.

Said that compared to his HPI Alfa, and his Protoform xzara, it produced noticeably more all round grip, with the Xzara performing the worst.

Is there a difference between say a Protoform, Andy's or HPI Straus shell or do they all have the same traits.

Right now I'm running an Andy's Honda Accord and find it has more rear grip and less steering than the Protoform but has a good feeling on the whole.

I know a few people that have tried the Mondeo and they all seem to like it.

We like being different so we're running a Protoform Porsche Boxster body on our TC3 and have used an HPI BMW body, too. Boxster works better than the BMW. I think driving makes the difference. We can finish ahead of some Stratus drivers, behind others.

The new HPI BMW two-door sedan body looks cool.

I prefer the protoform Alfa 156. It's very slick and allows for higher top speeds.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Bigger wing means bigger downforce, therefore higher cornering speed, but more drag in the straght, is my assumption correct?

Side wings affect the stability?

I think your assumption is correct for the wing size.

Don't know about the side wings though.......no one at the track will ever tell me what the effects are. can anyone on here help?

Yep, in theory the side plates would add straight-line stability, and also affecting turn-in response.

But in practice, they fall off when you clip a tall marker or get "finessed" by another driver.

well..mind would never come off!! i use screws and nuts to hold the side wings...although it add a little more weight...(what..10g 15g?) which doesnt bother me....

It really sucks when you lose the entire wing during a race. You might as well just pull your car off after that.

use double-sided servo tape. trust me on this one. you'll never lose a canard (fancy term for those side things on the wing that you can't seem to keep on).

as for my contribution to this thread:

yes, the stratus has an impeccable reputation for it's great handling characteristics (and when you give it a good paint job, can actually look pretty cool), but i've been experimenting w/ the protoform volvo s-40 (unfortunately discontinued, but has been replaced by the s-60) and seems to be working pretty good for me. i will admit though, if i went to a new track or my car seems to be driving w/ a mind of it's own - i'm throwing the stratus back on.

Servo tapes what I've been using - but the track I race at (and the heat they are STILL putting me in) is pretty rough, and the canards come off worse every time!
