It took me a bit over 1000$ to get ready for the new carpet season on 1/12th. But I got almost everything brand new and top notch. The only thing I haven't bought yet is radio, which is over 5 years old (Hitec Lynx 3D) but I've NEVER had an issue with this radio, ticking and ticking... but I might switch to Spektrum later this season. The money would be double, if I still would be racing TC

I think after my recent re-entry into the hobby after a 3.5-year break, I spent close to $3000.00. Here's what it bought me:

Associated TC5 - x2 kits
Spare Parts for TC5
Rubber Tires - 2 full sets not used yet
Foam tires - approx 10 full sets now in 3-months of racing, every week
Spectrum Radio
Futaba 9550 Servo
Novak 13.5 SS & GTB system
Hudy Setup System
ICE Charger
IB4200 6-cell packs - x4
Trinity Digital Discharger
Orion DC Power Supply

or drinking Cola's, bottled water, fast food, etc... Any number of things can be sacrificed to pay for RC. That is unless you are an addict and travel to multiple races around the country, then the cost can get crazy.

Back in the days of brushed motors and nickel batteries, I broke down the cost per race day instead of tallying up the lump some. Since I take very good care of my car/electronics and upgrade my gear often, I figured that I spent $70 - $85 per race day. With BL + Lipo these days, I figure that I now spend $55 - $60 per race day. Who'd have thunk that racing would get cheaper?

I always love these threads, makes me tear up sometimes. I wonder if they have meetings for guys like us. If a guy has to goto a meeting for spending 50k at the casino, I think we need help!

Well.. in just this week I bought:

Airtronics * M11 Radio/receiver - $ 521
Trinity * T8 bag - $128
X-Ray * T2 '007 - New $432
DPD Dyna Pro Digital - $145

Total:
$$1226

I don't even want to know how much I've spent on RC related merchandise.
I should be set for a while with just this week spending. Sold all my equipment, for college, and now I'm back for good =).

I figured it out, including the original cost of the car (bought of ebay real cheap). I have about a grand into at this time, I am only running one car and one class, only started racing in June. I also still have a bunch of electronics that still work great and like 6 sets of tires that have very little time on them. This does not include the cost to race on a regular basis, ie entry, food, yada yada.

I also figured the 2 weekends that I spend out of town with the family this year. It was well over $600 for each out of town excursion. The week I spent in Germany, was well over $3000.

So all in all my car doesn't really cost that much to own.
