Tamiya TRF416 / TRF416WE / TRF416X

I thought they would have atleast changed the rear layshaft and belt configuration to be more like the HB Cyclone to bring the motor weight closer to the centerline.

That's pretty dissapointing iff you ask me, I really thought Tamiya would go revolutionary instead of evolutionary for TRF416, they've definately taken note and accomodated LiPo pack shape/design if ou check the shape of the rear bulkhead. While the larger bearings address a definate week point in the current TRF415/EVO V/TA05R/TA05MS suspension.
Not that it matters for us over here but I notice that Tamiya haven't made provision for 5 cell packs, perhaps these are not production version pics(not likely if they're coming off the Tamiya site)

Those pictures are OFFICIAL. Those are pics of the prototype and not the finished product, but the layout will not change. This was not meant to be a revolution, or big change like it was from 414 to 415, but rather an evolution. As anyone who followed F1 between 2000 and 2004 will tell you, an evolution rather than an all new car is not always bad (Ferrari's strategy in F1 during that time, and tell me how they did in those 4 seasons.....not too bad).
They decided they wanted to finally change the name from 415 to 416 which could have been done when they changed from 415ms to 415msx. All of the components on this car will be new and not be interchangable with your 415.
You have to remember, all TC cars look similar to this now. When you have a platform that works, and works very well, why try to be radically different? All it will take is one big win and everyone will want this chassis too.
This car is official and it will look like the pictures. Disappointed or not, that car is the TRF416.

Well said...
I Think there are many changes that are good and needed..... Whats the point in raddically changing everything when you have already spent thousands of hours developing something which u know works.... There is only so many possible combinations...

About F1, you're right that a good car dosen't need to much updating. Look at Honda this year, they are struggling to qualify in the top 15 and are being passed by the old cars they sold to teams with MUCH smaller budgets!
Imagine if a radically different 416 was a bomb and 415s driven by unsponsored drivers were beating the Tamiya Factory guys!!!
Personally I am really excited for the 416! I was just getting ready to upgrade to the 2007MRE but now I'm waiting for the 416!!

Acturally F1 changed LOTS in pass few years. It's just car "looks" similar, but under the similar looks it changed LOTS on almost everywhere.
Ferrari won 1/2, WOOHOO... (just finish Live from Spa)..

"Control tyre optimised" means "More flex" (sub-optimal tires, less traction)
I like the rear bulkhead...it looks just like what I did to get a 4800 into my T2. I got an MSX, but then I traded it for the T2 because the 415 was a "no-go" for LiPo.
My only concern is the situation with Tamiya USA. It seems like parts are harder and harder to get.

Are you sure about that? The toe blocks look exactly the same as the Evo/415/TA05 ones. At least that's what I'm hoping. I'd really hate it if I had to buy a whole new set. The suspension arms even look compatable to the LW reversable ones.

I am going to be getting the MSXX MRE for now and not going to mess with the 416 until there are some more people running it so I can get some help. I know the MS suits me well and this the MSXX will as well. I am unsure with the motor that far back how I would like it as it is something I usually don't like.

Isn't the motor moved more to center for use of brushless motors? i put the pix over in photoshop and layed them over another, and the only thing diffrent are the steering rack?
and why shuld Tamiya show the car before the suzaka? toyfair?

I run the 05MS with the MSXX, and it's equal grounds. Lap times identical, but I think the MS is easier to drive. Being a tamiya fan, I'd like to get my hands on the 416 one day, but don't see it as a competitve edge just yet. Jumped into the MS due to the unique layout, and it proved to be good.
I honestly think TC is at it's peak in terms of chassis design. Just take a look at the new chassis these days. It's either a 415 or a JRXS typeR.
