The redesigned top deck that comes with the LiPo chassis is cut in such a way that the car can accomodate much larger pinion gears without requiring any modification. For my 17.5 in the "spec" class, I'm running a 54T pinion (100T spur) with no problems at all. In fact, I could probably go up to a 57T or so if I had to. With all past iterations of the car, getting anything larger in there required a decent amount of filing.

I kinda hope future versions of the LiPo chassis assume you'll run your belts flipped, and do away with the larger cutouts so you can run pulleys either way. I've already seen one damaged chassis from a side impact, something which never affected other chassis for this car. It also seems like the rear edge is more susceptible to damage than before.

I ran my last pack before IIC tonight. Now it's time to strip down the X and get it ready for Vegas. I've tried all sorts of setups, but in the end, Jilles Snowbirds setup has worked the best for me with very few changes, and is what I'm going with as my starting point next week. It sounds like Tamiya isn't sending the TRF team, so it'll probably just be a couple of privateers carrying the banner for the greatest car ever made. We'll do our best to represent.

BTW, the Smokem 416LP I have is stiffer than stock and probably similar to a 2.5mm Tamiya. And it's also more lipo friendly.
I was talking about the FX chassis, not the LP chassis.

And I also commented on why you might want more flex on carpet - ie FX chassis:

Thanks! Tamiya USA doesn't seem to have much of an on-road team, if any. There will be plenty of guys there from XRay, AE and HB with full factory support though. And not just for mod. I think the super stock clases are taken more seriously than mod in this country. Rumor has it Hara and Moore will be entering the boosted 17.5 class! I hope they're ready!

US Team or NA Team, what a joke, lol. I'll be cheering for you Adam, even though running a different brand myself. AND I will be there to do that (got it all sorted out so I'm good to go now). Due to the airlines I have to cut back on what I would bring so I'm only bringing one car, so I have to bring the tank, just to make sure I make it through the first 2 corners, LOL. Hopefully we can hook up or maybe pit togeather.

The individual part number is 9805893 (RC 1.6x4mm Cap Screw). Might be easier to buy a set of the hexes as spares...

They've been on sale for a long time. They are nice but scratch easily. Can't beat it for $27 though.
