I don't get on here that often, so I apoligize for asking about something that may have already been discussed.
I am interested in getting a gear diff, and wanted to know what the benefits are of having one as far as handeling of the car. I'm assuming it is less maintanence due to not having to rebuild as often as a ball diff.

Owen, you may want to consider to hold on the move as X Ray may release a new chassis towards the end of the year.... hehehee.....

Does not bother me, T2 008/009 still kills in the correct hands. Took months for some to get the T3 dialed in. It be half way threw next year before the T3 '011 gets dialed

I can't think of any reason why you would want a MORE flexible chassis on carpet. In fact, I think the optional 2.5mm Tamiya chassis (stiffer than stock) would be a worthy upgrade for a carpet car.

I think it depends on the carpet and tires. On foams, you definitely want to go stiffer in most cases. On rubbers, it depends on the grip levels. Ronald Volker pretty much dominated the last European carpet season with a flexy Yokomo so more flex definitely helped him there. BTW, the Smokem 416LP I have is stiffer than stock and probably similar to a 2.5mm Tamiya. And it's also more lipo friendly.
