Yay, more blue bling

Anyway, looking at Marc's car, noted some interesting setup bits... Looks like he's running a shorter than usual front wheelbase (looks like a 1mm spacer behind the arm), and using the non-WE chassis (batts are further back).

Also looks like he might have more than 5mm worth of ackerman spacers, but I can't be sure... the links are quite straight, but that could be a result of the shorter wheelbase.

Only a half millimeter difference and 4 mm of ackerman spacer.

Looks like he's running the WE topdeck, too. Hadn't they been using the two piece on carpet generally?

I keep finding myself going back to the WE version, it seems a little less twitchy on the rug.

Nice spotting Ed. I ran 5.5mm of ackerman yesterday and my links weren't that close to the block so I'd say that might be 6mm. What does a shorter front wheelbase do? I tune with the rear all the time, but I have never touched the front

Anybody else noticed on mark's car

That he is running the rear left shock one hole more upright than the rear right shock.

Now that is an interesting setup!

I've tried fitting WE topdeck on my 416 and it's kinda longer than it should and causing my chassis to tweak.

Should sand off some of the part?

Thanks.

I filed mine to make sure there was no chance it would bind up the bulkheads. Also, I think it helps to compress the suspension all the way by pressing down on both shock towers while tightening down the top deck.

Does anybody know if any of Marc Rheinard's 416 "World Edition" set-ups exist?

hye chaps i need a foam asphalt setup, i'm buliding my car this week and would like to start off by getting the basic idea, could any on tell me what i would need to do/buy to get the car ready to compete? i know its more of a rubber car, but i'm sure i can make it work on the tar...

thanks in advance for the detailied replies, i will be running a tekin R1 pro with a tekin 3.5T sensorless motor! so it should be pretty quick... super quick. its all about handeling...

It'll effectively do the same as the rear, in terms of moving the weight forward, but will shorten the wheel base. (opposite of lengthening the rear)

In simply terms;
Shorten front = Weight Forward, shorter wheelbase
Lengthen rear = Weight forward, longer wheelbase
Lengthen Front = Weight back, longer wheelbase
Shortern rear = Weight back, shorter wheelbase

I guess he was after more front end, and a bit quicker mid corner rotation..

As for the top deck Q... nope, seems like the WE deck (or a two piece with a cut rear brace as in the case of young Yannic's car) is the top deck of choice, regardless of surface...

Damm good spot on the shock setup too... I wonder if it's just a picture goof (rushing to get it looking nice for pics), or if it's actually been run like that... wouldn't be the first time I've heard of an asymetric setup

Ed

Ok i have been messing around with my car a bit, and in regards more specifically to this WE chassis than every car, what is the effect of having more ackermann on the steering links? By more, I should say more angled versus less which would be straighter links.

Also, has anyone used the 416/TB03D aluminum rear uprights? Is it anything more than some more unsprung weight in reality?
