Hi all,

As the title says, i would like to know wich countries use control tyre in national championships.

I know england and france have, but i would like to have more examples.

Also, could you give some feedback on how the tyre is chosen? is it a drivers votation or national EFRA representative decision?

Finally, are you happy racing with control tyre, or would you prefer a free system?

Spain is planning to use for next season Sorex 36C....

this is a decision from AECAR voting (drivers included) as in the current season we were able to run both rubber and nitro foams... you have to have in mind that electric is mainly run on big nitro race courses here....

regarding preference, a set of control tires is around 40 euros, and a set of foams is around 18 euros.... so I think you probably know which preference do I have...

The UK had a vote asking everyone who had entered the Nationals the previous year what they wanted as a control tyre (the choice was from a list of selected pre-built's);

Most people voted for RP30's so that's what we got, sort of

The compound this year seems to be slightly softer so the BRCA RP30's are quicker but don't last as long.

In Greece for the past years we use control tyres/insert, wheels are not controlled. It's cheaper since everyone has to use same combo making setup and driving more important

Greek federation, EL.M.E., every year requests from stores to hand in offers with different types of tyres and their prices. Federation chooses best offer (some keys are: availability, price, duration etc) and makes the decision

This year we use LRP 30R after 3 years of using CS 27

For this season in Austria, we had to use TO CS27 preguled on TO hard wheels, medium insert. Besides the crappy wheel, a good combination in terms of grip and durability.

In denmark we are using pre-glued control tires. Sorex 28 on orion rims for indoor carpet and sorex 36 on orion/schumacher rims for out doors.

the national federation(DASU) decides every year what brand tire/rim will used for the forthcomming sesson. Like in Greece, the danish federation requests dealers/distributors to hand in offers with different types of tyres and their prices. The federation then chooses best offer.

Indoor will start in 1-2 months and they havent yet decided, but rumours say that they will switch to LRP VTEC-24R pre-glued.

the Pre-glued tires is aquired with your Local hobby dealer, sealed, stamped and certified by the federation at overprice 50 USD and is checked at each race.

Also in the UK we have the Schumacher-sponsored BTCC series running on pre-built Sorex's.

In the winter most indoor championships seem to be now using the LRP/Nosram 24R pre-builts.

Hi, you mean that DASU purchases the tires and then sells them to the drivers at that price?

The price for the tire pair is max 26euros (we set maximum price allowed)

I notice at we use same brand of tires (Sorex 28R preclued) here in Finland also. I haven`t any experience yet how they perform in carpet? I saw at our LHS acquire them from DHIracing

It's logical since you order large number of tires. Do you happen to know what is the minimum number of tires required to get something on the tires?

In the Netherlands we use for the thirth year in row CS27w from Take Off with the Take Off medium insert and Orion Hard wheel. Same combination as in use in Austria and Swiss.

For next year we are testing different combinations of Tires and the one with the best testing results ( done by several drivers ) will be choosen.
Testing is done to see how many runs we can do on a set of tires, what grip levels it has and to see if there is a big drop in performance. Price/avalabilty/supply are also taken into the final dicision.

No DASU is just deciding what tyre, wheel, insert combo is going to be used
in the upcoming season, then it's up to the dealers to sell the tyres.
The federation decides a maximum price, in this case 40Euro pr 4 tyres.
The dealers can choose to sell the tyres cheaper.

Actually it's a big advantage for the dealers that we have control tyres, since they can buy bigger amounts each time, and they are sure that we dont find another "super" tyre next week, making their stock worthless.

Most of the drivers are happy with the control tyre solution. Drivers like me who tried to race without ANY tyre rules, are extremely happy about it, since this rule makes racing a lot easier, and cheaper.
