I am currently using the Krypton 10 x1 with this setup

Orion 2/6 Silver Brushes
Standard Springs
5 Degrees Timing
Final Ratio 6.92

The motor runs fine but the only problem is that the brushes become blue after every run with hardly any comm wear.

Anyone else had the same problems???

That could be related to the % of silver content in those brushes making them heat up. I’m not personally familiar with those Orion ones but I’ve talked to people who have 3-4 runs on the stock “Actron” brushes without a problem.

Hi Mark,

Thanx for your input.

I used the same set up with the actron brushes too and had the same problem.

I also tried 3 Degrees timing and went up a couple of teeth in gearing - but it wasn't as fast.

The motor seems to be geared properly and is very consistant throughout the race and gives me plenty of runtime.

Idea for you to try then: Bump the timing up, something like 12-18+ degrees, and gear down a tooth or two on the pinion. That will put the motor into the high-end RPM power band that it likes for more of a lap. Your low-timing setup with more gear could be making it lug along and any sort of bogging (even if maybe it’s not immediately noticeable) will definitely heat up the brushes.

Hobby People doesn't have the motor on their site. Does anyone know who else has this motor in stock?

I heard that you should just stick with the 766 Brush...it is the same brush that come with and performs very well in the Reedy Ti motors but it is the laydown version.

I just picked up a MR-4TC SD SSG and that will be my motor of choice for the car. Anyone have idea on what I should start the gearing at? I will be using 64 pitch gears.

Mike Webb, yes the 766 is the same as the 729 Quasar just laydown. I'd suggest staying with the 766 as i've heard stories of burning brushes with any significant silver content (e.g. 767's).

Umm...track size plays a large role....ask people you know what they are gearing their 7 turns (Ti's) and that should be about right.
