Go with the L4, easy to setup and tons of parts are available.

Simple - Get the CRC Gen X, excellent support, parts availability, dealers can order cars and parts from Horizon. CRC is the 1/12th leader, many racers use the Gen X, so lots of help available. Plus, they always have innovative new products.

SpeedMerchant, but I might be a bit biased....
Great car. Easy to setup and keep running at the top.

t-bar cars are very easy to drive and to setup. But probably you will destroy some t-bars (in the beginning)
link cars are nearly undestroyable but driving and setting up is (a little bit) more difficult.
BMI DB12? Never drove one, but there is a big thread about the car in this forum.

Have to agree there! Speedmerchant makes great cars! Im getting rid of my rev 3 and picking up a rev 4. Im letting a lot go for cheap. http://rctech.net/forum/showthread.p...=speedmerchant
Also consider the Hyperdrive model. good support and barry makes good cars!

The L4 is a great way to start. I then converted my L4 to an OD chassis and I have been very happy. Depending on what type of racing you will be doing the guys here will let you know what they think will be good. On the rug, I here link cars are the way (rev3 or rev4). For asphalt I like t-plate cars myself.
Hope that helps.

In case guys are curious about DB12R parts support there isnt a single part on the car that wont ship to you the same day you order it.
If you are in a jam at a track all the front ends parts are the same as a 12L4, CRC T-Fource, Gen-X, etc.,...they all use or can use the RC12L4 front suspension.
To be honest nothing else breaks on a DB12R...we've tried
If you want to check out the instructions to see what its all about click the link below.
