THE batteries for stock/light mod

THE batteries for stock/light mod
I would like to know which batts will work best for stock or light mod touring. I've heard people take sides on the NiMH/NiCd fence, but I don't know what's true. So if you could enlighten me, I'd appreciate it.

THE batteries for stock/light mod
This is what most People locally are running.
For Stock racing, HIGH average VOLTAGE is what you need. (2400's or Higher)
"Mild Mod?" (19T) runtime becomes an issue so you need the best of both worlds. (Usually 3000 or 3300's)
Mod (under 19T), Runtime is everything. You can always go to a lower wind for speed. (3300's)

Pops, do you know where I can get matched 2400's? Promatch stopped carrying them a while ago...

... a related question:
I'm just getting back into R/C after having been out of it for nearly 10 years. Back when I was racing hardcore, it was either 1400 SCR's (punch) or 1700 SCE's (runtime).
Do today's GP3300 and similar Ni-MH high runtime cells give the same "punch" that the old 1400 SCR Ni-CAD's did?
TIA

If you want the punch like the old 1400 SCR`s used to have then you pretty much have 2 to pic from ...and they are both getting hard to find now a days
2400`s and 3000 UMH`s (by panasonic)

Is it true that the 2400's do have a little more punch than the 3300's? Because i was thinking of gettng a 3300 but im not sure if it would be better.

Are the packs new?
3000H is the original Sanyo cell. It's ok, but not as good as the newest cells.
Second-hand NiMH cells (or any cell) are a risky buy, because performance deteriorates the more they are used.
They're good enough to compete with (unless you're at the very highest level) - but since this is your first race, your driving will hold you back, not your cells (no offence).
