Okay, now i understand why there are such large gearing differences. I am running the us edition with 20t pulley's and 64p gears.
I normally run 112spur and 37pinion for a mixed layout carpet track.

why belts
Guys,
i dont run an '08 (as yet) and im strugglung to make sense of what the drama is with the belts and pullys. Why Schumacer and Yokomo etc. the xray belts and pullys not good enough?
To save my embarrasment can someone pls PM me and let me know the story.

It's nothing to be embarrassed about!
To get the motor and battery (the most massive parts on the car) as close to the center line/eachother and to get the put gear and pulleys and the angular momentum created by them on the center line, XRAY split the pulleys and put the spur in between them which created a problem with pinion gears (mostly the grub screw in them) to be very close to the belt. And something to do with how the 16T pulley and 38T diff make the rubber tire car better, they went to that, which makes it very hard to get the correct gearing to 13.5/10.5 brushless, so some guys are going back to the old pulleys or mixing stuff to better accommodate gearing.
As I have told several customers over the phone, I would recommend running the following gearing in their '08's for 13.5/10.5:
Foam: 96T/41T 64 Pitch (convert to 48P by multiplying teeth by .75)
Rubber: 78T/34T 48 Pitch (convert to 64P by multiplying teeth by 1.3333)

Could we talk XRAY into a 22T pulley? The main challenge with brushless motors is getting the FDR needed with such a large spur..
If the pulley went up to 22T, it would increase the clearance for the belt to pinion set screw, and it would change the ratio enough to use the stock spur/pinion combo..
Call it a "brushless upgrade" and simply change 1 part (20T pulley to a 22T pulley), which would resolve a lot of this...

I reread the article, but it looked targeted to the EU spec crowd and changing pulley's and diffs to the US spec for Brushless due to the rubber spec car already having a higher internal gear ratio than the US spec..
I have the US foam spec with Mario's suggested diff and pulley combination, and run into the challenge with the stock spur (116t) not able to fit a large enough pinion for the roll-out the brushless motors are capable of.
I solved the issue by purchasing a 100T spur, but the suggestion of an option of a larger center pulley, resulting in a lower internal gear ratio would offer several benefits to the brushless crowd (EU and US).
1. Increased spacing between the pinion and the belt eliminating belt wear issues
2. Allows the brushless users an option us to use a standard size Spur, which allows easy access to the motor screws, and the advantage of offset spurs made by XRAY (currently the smallest is 112 I believe?), which helps with the additional space for the battery/pinion concern.
3. The drivers are able to use current pinion sizes instead of purchasing differing sizes (from brushed to brushless).
4. An ability for a brushless user to purchase a kit and race, without purchasing new spurs/pinions and worrying about belt wear.
5. Easily executable (changing of a pulley mold), which provides more options.
Sorry for the long winded post, just seemed like a light bulb went off for an easy solution.

My EU-5cell very hard gear ,
the spur gear can't use smaller spur gear 110-112T... , for balance torque !
do you have more lower center shaft holder ?
for use small size spur gear & don't touch pinion gear !!

The guys here have been running 100-102t spurs and 48-50t pinions with 13.5 brushless on the EU edition. The only problem really created by this is motor mount screw access...and that was solved by drilling a small hole in the spur towards the outside of the gear. Once it is done, though, it is not really a big deal.
