...who knew?
Everybody KNEW~ That's Who
LOL
(It was in all the magazines and everything back then...LOL)
Ralph finished 10th in the RCThunderdrome 1990 PRO SUPERSPEEDWAY "A" Main
Kent Clausen won that event that also had
Phil Simms
Bob Novak
Donn Rice
Ken Moon
Dave Pulfer
Cliff Lett
Bud Bartos
and
Rick Jordan
That year, according to estimates published in the old R/C News magazine the RCThunderdrome had close to 600 'Racers, Spectators, friends and family' basking in the California SUN.
Wow was that an EVENT.
Banana Dan Moynihan and Gary McAllister did such an awesome job with this event back then~
I'm proud to say that 17 years later we're still racing on that ENCINO VELODROME that hosted those old RCTHUNDERDROME events and my how times and speeds have changed.
BTW: WINNER of the "AMATEUR MOD. A MAIN" was some future SUPER PROMOTER named "Mike Boylan"
and just to give an example of speeds...
Boylans WIN turned in a 20/4:03.56 run in 6 cell MODIFIED which would be an average lap time of 12.178 seconds per lap.
Two weeks ago during our SWTour **Allstar Shootout** at this location our 4 cell STOCK TQ turned in a time of 25/5:06.19 for an average lap time of 12.247 (2 less cells, and a STOCK motor for 5 minutes ..and 17 years...WOW) (The 4 cell MODIFIED TRACK RECORD NOW SITS at 32 laps in 5 minutes with about a 9.5 second lap average)
