Default Tamiya RS540 Sport Tuned Motor brush break in

I was going to water break in my Tamiya Sport Tuned Motor, and I noticed that the brushes are ribbed...am I supposed to break in the brushes until the ribs are gone and the brush fits flush with the commutator?

Also how does the Tamiya Sport Tuned Motor compare in performance to your typical ROAR stock motor?

you are not supposed to break in the brush until the ribs are gone. this year i race on Tamiya Cup Series using this motor...i nottice that when the ribs is gone...the performance of this motor is decreasing. you just need break in this motor 2 X 2 minute at 2 Volt....

When you say "ribbed" do you mean that when you look at the brush side-on through the vent holes, it appears that there is an "arch" in the brush face (the axis of the arch is perpendicular to the comm) and the brush only touches the comm at the two ends of the "arch"?

If this is the case, then no, that's how it's supposed to be. It's the same in the "standard" silver-can 540's.

Wearing the brushes down so that they are in "full-face" contact shouldn't be necessary. It would be the equivalent of buying a set of serrated brushes for a rebuildable and running it in until all the serrations are gone.

Just use the same "water dip" method for the same length of time as you would a normal silver-can 540.

Yeah, but the brushes are different. The sport tuned motor brushes are softer so the same break-in method as a silver can motor is not applicable.

Anyway, I searched for you: http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthre...motor+break-in
