He may be a newbie to R/C but he isn't putting anything into a Nikko toy....

I think.

Ok it's me, and im back after 2 years.....ok....i know the nikko is a toy, is crap but I'm thinking, how about modifying it, yeh it mite cost more in the end than buying a new r/c car, but it will b interesting. I have access to a machine shop so I could get stronger gears machined to suit.....get a new ESC, battery and motor and have a modded r/c car, one of a kind.......What do you guys think? Reason i'm even thinking about this because i'm into fixing things and fiddling around and modifying stuff.

Lol, mega bump

I don't think its worth it. I had a 1/14th nikko that I put decent electronics in and modded the motor (cranked the comm etc). Other bits just broke. I'd reccomend just buying something like a TC4, TA05 etc. Then you can make it go as fast as you want (within reason ) and not worry as much about which gear is going to grenade this time.

Good luck

get a Tekin RS Pro/ 2.5 Redline combo and listen for the detrimental sound of high revs as your plastic nikko gears go "I can't take this much power!"

A TC3, TC4 or TA05 is best. The TA05 is strongest, but least able to cope with gravel in parking lots etc. as it's belt drive. It's however more suited topowerful motors. It's about $150 for the kit, and another $100 for basic electronics. Once you have the basic stuff you can upgrade when you have the money.

Then it will handle like poo and break when you hit something. And by the time you make the whole car out of aluminium, it'll be so heavy it will only go as fast as the original one did
