Angry Chunking Foam Tires!

I am running a Pro3 on a on road carpet track, the foam tires that everyone at the track reccomended I use is Jaco purples in the front and Jaco plaid in the back. Well at the end of the day I had chunks of foam missing from both of my front purple tires. What can I do about this? I can't be spending 40 bucks a week for new tires, if I buy two sets of front tires every week I will have spend $4056 in one year (yes I did the math, lol). My questions are:

1) What can I do to prevent my tires from chunking?

2) Should I buy a different compound or a different type of tire?

3) Is it okay if I run tires with chunks of foam missing from them?

4) Any other tips for running foam tires on carpet?

Thanks!

Round the edges off of the outsides of the tyres off before you run them.

The tires come trued and the edges are already pretty round, also the chunking happens in the middle of the tire not on the edges.

Default Accord

First of all you run purple in the Rear and Plaid up front.

Then try and stay off the walls or hit anything, witch is hard to do.

if you want your car to feel tweked or comming around to much when you turn, run with chunks of foam missing from them.. just buy new ones if there that bad.

run a beed of super clue around the tires like if your looking at the rim around there where the tirer and rim meet. this should help you a bit.

you can try and super clue the chucks back in there place. but i wouldnt do that in less your really on a budget.

Foam Tires are not cheap, hope this help you..

Chunking tires can be a big problem...

If you are using additive, don't use the tires more than 1 or 2 times per day because they will became to soft and will chunk easy.

Check the edges of the tires so they are glued to the rim before you run them. It's very common that the edges of the tyres come loose from the rim after a few runs. If they are loose, just use contact cement or perhaps CA glue

The third advice is perhaps more difficult... Drive more carefully - foam tires will not chunk if you don't do any mistakes...

But if you do chunk your foam tires, don't throw them away. You can glue the chunk back to the tire with contact cement. It will work just fine!

What? middle of the tire? I've never seen that. You must have hit something sharp? Or bad tire quallity?

The thing is, the chunk comes out of the tire and I don't even notice it until I pull the car off the track and inspect it, and by that time the chunk is long gone so I can't glue them back in.

Today at the track it was like bumper cars, I got airborne a few times too, lol... mabye I hit some in the process while the tire was moving. These tires were brand new, only used them for 3 or 4 runs.

Take a look at the body in the last pic... the entire thing was a perfect coat of silver, now half the front end is clear .

true the tires down around 59mm before you run them. this will reduce the chance of chunking them greatly. also if you can see the piece of foam chunk when your marshalling grab it glue it in position with rubber glue and give the tires a little skim on the truer.

One other thing, make sure your body is trimmed so it doesn't catch the tyres, even in light collisions - a sharp lexan edge, digging in when the wheels are turning, will mess the tyre up.
