To all who run 17.5-- do you find he car easier to drive?vs a 13.5;is it that much slower?Contimplating running a 17.5 vs a 13.5 to get better consistancy and better overall laptimes.I find low 10 sec and a few sub 10's at my track to be very intimidating to newbies as well as us "old skool"old farts. And by no means is our local track small.Horsham Pa.

I ran for the first time at Horsham two weeks ago with my DB12RR. If you just wanna have a good time, and are content with running in the B main at the end of the night(like me ) then just run the 17.5 and don't worry about how fast ya go.
As far as set up for the DB12RR, the only change I made from the other track I race was tires. The car just works.

With the level of competetion at Horsham--B main is a certainty
I just need to "log laps"and get my 1/12 legs back.I know the car is there--
I'm not

I have received my DB12RR Lipo today (from Stormer)

Interestingly the side flex plates are not the carbon ones.
I thought, the new Lipo edition comes with the carbon?

I have raced a 12R5 for one season and will try the BMI now.
(Indoor, high bite carpet).
Somewhere i read the BMI is not competitive on carpet.
Has somebody owned both cars and can tell me where the main differences are?

Thanks...

The car is very competitive on carpet. We just dont bother investing a ton of money into the big races to flex our muscles. We had 1 driver take 2nd at Snowbirds last year with the car and it has made the top 10 ever since it was a prototype. I decided to put money into the product instead of feeding my ego.

The cars have just started coming with the carbon fiber flex plates. Any kits that were sent out prior to the change will have the fiberglass ones.

Well first of all where ever you read that the bmi is not competitive, clearly has no clue what they are talking about. Over 50% of our club runs the bmi and we do very well with the car. A proper setup and good driving skills is something you need to make any car work. If you would like a starting setup send me a pm and I will get you one for high grip stock racing. Good luck and enjoy the car.

The DB12RR is most certainly a very capable carpet car. I'm a 1/12th scale noob and using the set-up I posted a page back, my DB12R finished third in the A-main at our club event this past weekend against (1st) 12R5, Team Tekin Factory sponsered and (2nd) CRC. First and second place drivers pack way more skill than I, but my little BMI still held the fastest qualifying lap and the fastest lap in the main. Bottom line, the car works well and is easy to drive.

That is really awesome buddy. Thanks for the info. Its cool when any customer can land a top 10 finish at a big race. Those spots are usually packed with factory sponsored guys. Really cool.

Hey WIITA,

Sorry For the late reply Lol... Yes the CF Flex plates are the way to go.The car is far more consistent and transitions very well through chicanes. No need to change your setup at all. Plus they look trick!!!

I highly recommend them!!!

Just got back from the Grand Slam race at The Track in MD. Car was great all weekend and came away with the TQ in 17.5 1/12. Overall it was a good weekend with the exeption of my major blow out in the mains. There wasn't a big turnout but there were some fast 1/12 guys in the house. Ran the same setup that I posted a couple pages back with the only change being Black front tires. The new flex plates were awsome on the high bite.

Still have a few more things to try, so I'll work on things more at the NEGS race at The Track next weekend. That will give me a good chance to see what we've gained against some good competion.

Front:
BMI .022 linear springs #4 surelube on pins
6 deg castor
5 deg blocks
Long upper arm
1.25 deg camber
servo angled in forward pos.
0 toe
Parma Double Pink tire cut to 1.60
3.5mm ride height

Rear:
New thin Carbon Flex plates, long position, no screws
50 wt in Silva shock w/ stock piston and Gold spring
Medium ball stud one hole forward from rear most pos.
#3 surelube in tubes
3.5mm ride height
1.5mm pod droop
Parma Orange tire cut to 1.70

Parma Speed 8 light body

The biggest gain that I made was lowering the front of the shock down. That change alone was worth almost 2 tenths at the Gate last week. I almost fell off the drivers stand when I heard the lap times called out, couldnt believe that small change made that much difference. Just some things for you guys to try out, seems the car is very sensitive to that adjustment with the lower weight.

As always any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
Greg,

Thanks for updating your most recent setup! I've put the same thing into my car and it is absolutely on rails! The variations I have are that I am using 10,000wt diff lube in the rear tubes (about the same as surelube #3). I use the CRC FE on the car and have the 50mm springs (0.020) in place. My tire choice at our track has been black fronts and yellow rears which have a great balance with this setup.

Before trying your setup, I was getting a bit off-base and struggling with it a bit. For most club drivers, not sure we could ask for a nicer driving car than what this setup produces!

Aaron
