Default gearing question for losi JRX-S

what pinion should i be running with a 9x2 motor and a 128T 64p spur gear?

i'm running a 24t pinion..
My LRP bullet Reverse speed control went up in smoke this weekend and i'm trying to figure out why? ran it for about 5 minutes and notices the ESC and motor were pretty hot, so i let it cool for a while, started it back up and a minute later i see a puff of smoke from the ESC and then nothing?

was it my gearing? bad speed control? hate to think i spent $100 on a speed control to last about 4 months :-(

and help or advice would be greaty appreciated.

It was probably the gearing as well as that speedo probably could not handle a motor with that low of a turn. Most reverse speedos don't handle motors that low.

Do you have the manual for the car? If not go to Losi's site and download the PDF of it and look for the gearing chart in it to get an idea where you should be on that motor. I have the manual to mine but I am at work at the moment and don't have access to it.
