Hey ya'll, I finally bought a decent, some will argue otherwise, car today. Found it for about $100 and was only missing a battery pack. It's 4Tec with a Novak ESC Trinity P2K Pro, battery charger, 2 bodies, various replacement parts and a can of Buggy Blaster.

I've done a search and didn't see a thread that helped with picking a battery pack. I'm sure that a 4000mah is the way to go but which one to get?

Thanks ya'll for advice on what to do next.

The battery u require depends on the motor used and the speed Vs runtime u need. The P2k i believe is a 19 turn spec (dont quote me) and i will base runtime on 5 min Touring Class u can get away with 3600 venom packs as my son does, and is still a good B main winner but the top Runners are all using 4200 which give more speed and power out of the corners. Price varies From $35 for a Venom 3600 to $79 for matched 4200 loose cells (model flight) or more for built packs. Definitly use deans T plugs as tamiyas will fail you.Good racing

I see that Venom has a 4600mah battery, would that be too much?

Are there other manufacturers that I should be looking at?

you need a 6cell stick pack(7.2volts) for that car. I also think you could install sidebyside configuer packs(most race packs are buitl this way)

IF your just bashing get something in the 3800 to 4200 mah range. There is no limit to capacity that your car can take. Capacity rated in MAH is only an indication of how much run time you will have. A 2000mah pack would not run as long as a 4200mah pack. That being said just because you can run 20minutes does not mean you should. Always monitor motor and speed control temperatures as tall gearing with high capacity packs can lead to motor burn out

What temp range should a motor and esc be running in to be safe?

I only saw 2 guys taking temps yesterday (Nitro though) and was kinda wondering why. They were the big guys so I figured they had a reason.

IF you cannot hold your finger against the motor or ESC for longer then a few seconds your likly too hot. I never take temp readings on my electric stuff so i dont have numbers for you. i should cuz i temp gun my nitro stuff all the time

Sometimes with cells it can be a case of budget.My 11 year old races a MR4 TC in 27turn and he lasts the 5mins easily with venom 3000ma packs that show no sign of dumping(running out of power) which is a$25 pack .On a race night u really need 6 packs as it is not wise to charge before resting them.If money is nt a problem get the big packs but eg a 3000 ma sanyo cell shits on a chinese 3800 for punch and u can only wring so much out of a P2K

Thanks for the info guys. I spoke with the local Hobbytown and didn't feel like too much of a 'tard. They have the stuff to build a 4200mAH battery pack, which seems to be the way to go.

They will also have a look over the car after work to check for any potential problems.

well,
I bought a 4200mah battery and rp30 tires. I didn't put on the the new tires yesterday but I did try the new battery in my kitchen. It left 2 feet of rubber on the first pull of the trigger. Ya'll weren't kidding that those batteries have more punch.

The good thing about the 4200s is you can use them twice a day(i use a pack in the morning and after cooling down in the afternoon races).....this means half the amount of packs needed. This means it's just as expensive to buy 3 more powerfull 4200s instead of 6 3000 packs
