How to get a faster silver can motor?

I heard that you can make a silver can motor faster by properly breaking it in and ALSO tuning it. Any advice to do this?

I read in the silver can thread that you can "crank" a silver can to increase the timing, and eventually more RPMs. Any idea how this is done?
