cheers im either buying two max amps 4000 or 2 orion 3200 just dont know which.
In terms of actual case size the Max amps 3000 is smaller than the Orion, because the Orion has the plastic outer case. Like Pit said you can fit a Max Amps 6000 into the car no problem

Team Orion 4800 mah li-po $169.99 = .035 cents per mah

MaxAmp 6000 li-po $99.99 = .0167 cents per mah
MaxAmp 8000 li-po $139.99 = .0175 cents per mah

This is a no brainer to have 8000 mahs of performance that is almost the same size and weight as a 6 cell nickel pack for $139.99 that is cheaper per mah than a quality matched 6 cell nickel pack!!!

What motor are you pairing it up with mate? will you be using it in official races/events or just to cruz around with. I have not heard any problems with maxamps lipos mate. Im about to grab a 5000HV 2S & a 4000HV 3S for my power hungry mamba!!

I have tried them both and the max Amps will run all day long at least 30 minutes with a 4300. I did it in a race against gas trucks off road.
I ran a 20 minute main with a GTB 4300 and Max Amps 6000's. Tq'd and won the main.
After 20 minutes the speedo was 99 degrees and the the motor was 129 degrees. Thats after 20minutes of run time. The temperature out side was 80 degrees. A person could easily run one pack in five minute rounds x 4.
Syndrome take a good look at Erocks packs. Hes been running Max amp 4000's all this time.

Are the 8000's 3 cell? I may be thinking of bumping up to 8000's I guess I'll check the site for dimensions to. I want to stick with the 7.4's.
The 6000's drop right in t hey are heavier to, the 8000's may just weigh in perfect.?

Just to add a little fuel to this fire, Team peak has there 3200 carbon lipo for $79! I picked up another one myself. Peak and Orion are the same except for the decal.
Also a little lipo update, Mr. Black (I believe he's the orion rep) on the other lipo thread has come out and said there packs are now 2C charge rated without diminishing the pack. What this means is you can now safely charge a 3200 at 6.4 amps instead of the 1C, 3.2 amps, which will mean about a 25min charge time if the pack were fully discharged. No other lipo can make this claim. Just food for thought about the quality of Orions/Kokam lipo construction

(Take this for what its worth: Originally posted in lipo legalization thread by Mr. Black)

Large capacity LiPo's are the easy way out, they allow the use of less quality cells and leave all the engineering up to the consumer to figure out how to wedge it in. We feel the consumer should have the easiest safest experience and this is why we go the extra mile to include the highest quality cells in a proper package designed for a specific application. This extra step has also allowed for the ability to now be approved for 2C (i.e. you can charge a 4800 @ 9.6A) charging which shortenes charge times by a great deal.

Mean like the Orion 4800 and 3200 that dont fit in a few cars without some dremeling. The Max Amps slide in perfectly with no modification

What cars would that be? Yes, the 4800 is larger and wont fit perfectly in say a Xray, or TRF415, but the 3200 will fit a Xray, or my 415 without mods.
I'm not saying dont use maxamps, but my experience with orion lipo's has been positive and I do like the idea of a shell to help protect the cells, just not shrink wrap only. If your having good luck with maxamps, great... the more lipo competition the better. Helps to keep prices down.

Talking

Anyone know the difference between the Maxamps HV packs and the regular? For example they have a 6000mah 7.4 HV pack, and the regular 6000mah 7.4v pack...is the HV = High Voltage, meaning deliver higher power/amps than the regular non-HV pack?

Also, please note that w/ Maxamps, you can get 3 yr insurace for the packs for an extra $15!!! Anything happens, you get them replaced, for free!!! That's how sure they are about their product...

I don't see what is the big deal about charging a 3200 mah Orion pack at 6.4 amps when you can charge a 8000 mah MaxAmps at 8 amps putting back in that 3200 mahs used faster than at 6.4 amps or for $20 more you can get a 6000 mah pack with almost twice the runtime that can be charged at 6 to 6.4 amp rate!

I just can't justify the extra expense for the Orion li-po because it is in a box! I have seen guys using them in they're trucks and have not noticed any reason they are better with a few of these racers also having the 8000 mah packs for they're Pro Truck that they tell me the only difference is the plastic box and less runtime using the Orion li-po!

Charge rates for orion 4800 platinum: Was 4.8amp, now 9.6amps. Charge rates for orion 3200 carbon: Was 3.2amp, now 6.4amps. Just to clarify.....yes you can charge a 8000Mah Maxamps at 1C, or 8amps ONLY. If maxamps used the same quality kokam's as orion you would be able to charge that 8000Mah pack at 16amps theoretecally.
Do you really think orion's packs are just overpriced lipo's with a plactic case? Thats what I'm hearing, and beg to differ. Its the quality of the cells that make these packs more money. Instead of making a bash orion's packs thread, go read up on them and then compair a maxamps, or any other lipo for that matter. Have you seen the pics of a nail driven through a orion pack to prove there safety? Fire should be anyones major concern using lipo packs. Where's the safety info on the maxamps, I want to read it? This is not to bash maxamps, I'm sure they are fine when charged and used safely, but concider that orions cells are made from better materials before labeling them overpriced.
