From what I've seen if running stock? The corner speed of the new Losi type-R is awesome. Its still a fragile car though, and makes the Xray more appealing in the durability factor.
Over all I would lean towards the Xray but the Losi is getting with the corner speed.
If running mod? Xray all the way.

Bud firstly where in SA are u ???
The most popular high end car in SA at teh moment is Tamiya TRF's both belt and shaft ,next would be Cyclone and Xray.
Wouldnt recommend Xray ,they have the worst back up locally.
The Pro4 you is not bad at all and is more than capable of holding its own at club level.
For stock 540 class the shaft drive cars are more popular.
In superstock (27t) its more mixed as this is the most popular class.
A good kit to consider is the TA05R and spares is readily available for Tamiya.
I run a Top Racing Scythe and and a TRF415ms.
