Cyclone S, pinions and Spur gears

Hello, i have just got a Cyclone S and bought 2 pinions 29(64dp) and a 33 (64dp) unfourntunatley they do not mesh.

Which combinations of 64dp spurs and pinions mesh?

Thanks More Speed RC

My car kit came with a 100T 64P gear, that is similiar to the gears XENON makes. i converted my cyclone to run 48P gears for reliability. however, the 100T 64P gear meshes fine from the Cyclone kit with the Robinson Racing pinions that i use on my 12th car. 21T thru 35T, no issues.

My came with 96T 64P spur and don't fit with Robinson pinions 34T/35T 64P. Need to make a lot modification to get it to fit.
Strange that kits come with different spur gear.
Now I know which way to go.

Thanks

the Cyclone S comes with a 96T 64P spur.

the Cyclone however comes with a 100T 64P spur. i believe this should be the same for the surikarn/hara/moorespeed editions.

from my experience with a 96T (64P) spur, iirc (64P) pinion gears with 37T or less don't mesh well with that spur gear, due to the limits in the slots on the motor mount.

easiest solution is to get a spur gear with higher teeth, unless you want to dremel the slots in the motor mount.

btw if you look carefully at the spur gear included in the Cyclone S / Cyclone set you'll notice the word "XENON" around the teeth . i use a 106T Xenon spur gear, works very well.

hello, after some buying and buying more i have also found that 106 spurs work well with a 32 pinion. I found that a 106 spur works well with most pinions. But i read somewhere that people have advised to file the motor mount, which increases the amount of space that you can adjust the spacing.

The overall gearing that i have now is a 8.07 with a 34 pinion and 106 spur. I want to go down to a 30 pinion which would give me 8.61. Hope it fits ;)

30T pinion will be no problem with a 106T spur - i've tried 27T & 28T pinions with that spur and they still mesh together fine.

Gear mesh

I use to wonder the same thing about the 100 tooth spur gear and why I couldn't go down to a 32 tooh pinion. but after calcualting my rollout ratio and running a 19 turn, I want my gear ration to read between a 6.2 and 6.3. I run the 100 tooth spur gear and i run the 39 tooth pinion. With a tire diamater of 58mm (foam) i get a rollout ration of 29.15 and my car files on the track.

I run the 19turn Komodo Pro with purple (pos) and red(neg) springs and my cyclone is one of the fastest at our track.
