You don't hear people making threads about their cells that don't blow up... They are out racing with them, instead of board hating on rctech like you guys.

Do I have a point?

Right now at fastlane, its probably about 60-40 or maybe even 70-30, in favor of lipo. I can really only think right off hand of 4 people running sub-c on Tuesdays in 10th sedan.
Orion 4800's and 3200's are the only 2 anyone is useing. And there has been no episodes. My 4800's are at a year now and still working fine.
When I ran sub-c's I ran GP's.

point is some of us dont make 50 grand + a year and cant afford to buy new high end packs all of the time. and some people want a battery that last longer than 5 charges.

The last big race I went to a guy had one of his IB4200's EXPLODE ... iBOOOM!!!! It actually dissentigrated!! All that was left was the outside wrapper of the cell. It was cool untill I saw the guy sitting across from the exploder run to the sink and start flushing his eyes and face with water

I guess we'll need to charge IBs in a jar along with the Lipos for safety. So whats next? Plutonium cells? Guys, get out your lead jackets.

Here's my opinion from limited experience:

The panasonic 3000's I bought 5 years ago held up pretty well over time and not one of the 36 cells went bad. My nephews are still using a couple of the packs for bashing.

I bought 36 IB4200's in the last 9 months and always follow the matcher's maintenance instructions. Two cells have already gone bad and I recently saw one guy's pack go off like shotgun shells in the pits. I'm almost afraid to hand them down to my nephews for bashing and hope lipo makes NIMH extinct sooner than later.

the wc cells where bad but you all wanted high voltage so there you go
the new cells are good
and im all for lipo if they did not cost so much and you can put them in a 1/12 car.
with brushless oh ya baby the speed the long mains oh yes this would be good
nitro what.
who needs nitro. when those sexy little 1/12 missiles fly down the track

oh im thinking out loud again.sorry.

IB 3700's are the reason I'm running Orion 3200's now. 2x Orion 3200 + charger was cheaper than 3x 4200 + ctx-d and more batteries in three months.
Balancing my 415 was hard, but my Evo IV was easy. Adding weight isn't really all that hard.

Sorry I just have to say it... Looks like it is time for the "4200 Sack"... And they thought that LiPo was the bomb

THIS just in...a glaring example of irony rears its ugly head on the board. The guy who can't spell "loser" or "grammar" is complaining about someone elses grammar. Kinda like being called ugly by the dog-faced boy at the circus.

Eight packs of SMC 4200WC's here. I DID get one bad cell from the get-go which was quickly taken care of by SMC. Ruined two packs accidentally shorting them together. Score...SMC-1, Scottrik 8.

Remaining packs are working GREAT and have 25-30 cycles on them.

I have had my 4 packs of 4200's for a year now, they are still great cells, just losing a bit of punch now. I had one die within 3 cycles, just went open circuit, replaced very quickly by HarrisRC.

I am now looking at new cells but am just a little hesitant about the LiPO route, I know that the failures are caused by mishandling of them, just like mishandling NiMh's is bad.
The only thing that is keeping me away from LiPO is the fact that they are not currently legal at any large races in my area. I can use them for Club meets and the clubs titles, but as soon as I go interstate or to another club I would need to have NiMh cells.

Decisions Decisions

Some of these responses from industry types are quite funny.

Erm..

Of course it's not IB's fault.

It's all you racers who are at fault.

All you racers that "demanded" a faster cell and you racers push these cells to their limit.

You racers actually forced IB to produce, market, and sell a questionable product!!!

Blame the racers!
