I have come to the conclusion it may be of benefit to me if I listened to mp3's whilst racing, rather than hearing whats going on around me.

I dont consider music to be a distraction, more something I like hearing.

Has anyone ever had the same thought before?

I think it could help as long as the volume is low enough to hear the race announcer. You wouldnt want to have a car break in the middle of the sweeper and not hear that announcement.

i have tried it, i think itīs can be great if you hear the motor sound.
oderwise it going to be no feeling in the car.

anyway, that's not driving style, that's driving 'in' style....

good luck... please count the number of times you hit the board and compare that with no music... I might end up doing the same if that works for you!!

As a driver, you need to do whatever it takes to
a) stay sharp, alert, and focused
b) control body functions, like breathing, blinking, and shaking
c) control emotions to end up always in a productive state of mind

I've considered trying it but until recently I haven't had an mp3 player. Also if I can't hear the car I don't feel connected to it and don't drive as well (like ff01 said). If I remember I will try it next time.

Don't you guys want to hear your car's drive train and motor? If it sounds funny, pull it aside before you cause more damage?

I have tried it, didn't like it, it took away from my focus on the track, I also noticed that the beat of the song affected my driving style.

Tsquare, you raise a very good point. In my opinion, touring car racing is highly conducive to a driving rhythm.

I used my iPod during a race meeting the other week, for some reason i was realy pissed off and dident want to listen to any thing going on around the track, made for an interesting race, my consistancey was up and i got a faster average lap time than i usualy get, not sure if it was the iPod or the anger i had at that moment though.

as long as you can still hear the start and end of the race it makes for a good run. I think i might try it at some bigger evens we have coing up.

i havent tryed my ipod while racing yet but i seem to be driving better then i am barley breathing and im like not blinking or anything im really tence and as soon as i move or try to loosen up i mess up the only problem is my feet hurt from not moving at all and im gonna try and learn to loosen up...cause my legs hurt after a race lol i know sounds wierd
