Any truth to the reports of handout foam tires this year?

Yes, there are some other races going on and they did not want their race to be on the same date as others.

I am not really opposed to a handout foam.....but I think a better rule would just be a control foam....this is what you can use, use as many sets as you would like....but nothing else.

I kinda wish they would do that in rubber tire racing......just say Rim A, Insert A, Tire A.....bring as many as you want, but nothing else.....still has the control aspect of it, as people won't need to try 300 tire/insert/wheel combos....maybe a little more pricey, but still cheaper than the open way, but its been working ok in modified offroad....and they just declare a tire...run as many as ya want.

I guess the only problem would be that a couple of companies or more will get left out in the cold.....possibly could solve that by allowing different tires for different classes, which may help with the tech anyways.....make it easy to spot...

I am hoping they do make one rule change.....you can race ONE class of a tire/chassis combo type and thats it.....so you can race ONE foam touring, one rubber touring, and one 1/12th....thats it....it will spread the racers out in each of the classes, will probably make the rubber classes have some bigger names...and lastly will open up the race for more contestants overall....I know for a fact, the factory teams won't care.....

Last year rubber tire was control premounts. My vote is to keep foam tire open. There are only so many compounds that will work anyway...

Controlled foam...I am not sure if I like that idea. Why? If you control it then it should be Double Pink Orange fronts and Double Pink Rears both single stage. I have been hearing a purple tire all the way around. That will suit everyone in the midwest just fine as they can test their brains out especially Lemiuex. However on the west coast we are limited on carpet tracks.

Yes but how is that different then any other race? I understand because it is something new, but every team has plenty of racers in areas with carpet tracks. These racers are all capable of getting a good setup with any type of tire, whether its purple/purple or double pink's. You know this is true. Sure you might have a hard time getting some practice in but like I said, its that way all the time anyways.

The spec tire rule is a double edged swoard. One one hand it keeps the playing field level. Everyone has to run the same tire and the same amount of tires. One the other hand, it shuts out every manufacture except one lucky company who gets the monopoly. Your not going to please everyone.
Those who are fast will be fast reguardless.....

Thank you Yeti for fielding this. This date will allow for no conflicts with the other races that are happening.

More info will be released in the coming weeks.
