Eventually I plan on upgrading to a TC5 but that will probably happen this winter at the earliest.

So which did you find best for xxx-s? Spool, diff or one way? One way in my opinion brings too much trouble over gains, diff works fine, but burns sometimes without reason (?), spool didn't try yet, tightening front diff to the maxx will be the same as spool?

no you can still slip your diff even when done up extremely tight!! With spool there is no slip at all!!

true, but be prepared to wear the diff out quicker when its set tighter, the balls and plates don't like it usually.

well to be honest when i do it up that tight i usually put old standard balls standard thrust and old plates and thick anti wear grease so it doesnt matter!! lol

Default Spool testing

Hello Thread,

I have a ta05ms which i have always run with ball diff. I have been for so long changing the way i drive to match the car, but NO MORE!

I will be doing testing off different diffs this weekend on an outdoor, good gripping track with good size straights and some tightish hairpins.

I will be running a 540 J-type motor and testing a 9-ball diff, a 16-ball diff, a one-way and a spool. I am leaning towards the spool as i have been told it will be able to serve me well, but this test will give me a great pool of data to actually see the difference.

Any tips will be appreciated and i will let you know my results on Monday.

Ben

When running rubber/asphalt with stock, going to BL 13.5 most likely. Looks like some prefer one-way, some prefer spool. Is it dependent on the track then?

Wrong........nothing is always in carpet racing........its all traction and layout dependent.

Here's some general guide for the front Multi-diff options: (pictured!)
Read the fine print where it says "Best when..."

Personally, it has to do also with your driving style. Smooth or aggressive.
It really comes down to personal preference. I don't think there's
right or wrong here. Hope this helps for some of you guys!

guys, yesterday at a medium traction track, the surface temp was somethging like 90Celcius. i ran a 11.5 BL motor, with a front one way, and the car was very stable lots of steering and i could even overtake a guy with 416 with spool with the same motor. its a very large track.
so then later i put in a 4R BL motor with the same setup, the car was completely unctrolabble, as soon as i punch the throttle with a little steering it will spin out, same when i let off throtthle and turn. now my question is, can a front ball diff solve my no traction problem with the 4R, without changing any springs or oil? my fornt springs are harder than rears. funny how the one way works with the 11.5 but not for the 4R.

running on asphalt and rubber tires...

Spool
- use it mainly when running mod (4.0BL)
- hate the way it eats up drivetrain parts so fast (especially axles).

One Way
- the only way to go when running stock (13.5, 10.5)

just my $0.02
