Default 200 degree batteries

Are hot batteries an indication of being undergeared?

A friend of mine was runnning a Novak GTB/4.5 system in a T2 with a FDR of 7.93. The batteries were sizzling, but the ESC and motor were only around 110 degrees. That was his first run with the combo, so we weren't sure what FDR he needed.

I would say overgeared, I thnk the Novak recommendation is more like 10:1 overall ratio in a tourer.

What cells were they? If they were cheap/old that may be why, if they are good condition IB4200s that seems way, way too hot.

That is way overgeared. You need to be around 10.5:1 to 11:1 with that motor

With my 3.5 I used a FDR of 10.1 with 5 Cells.
Batteries were getting warm but not overheating or something.

Oh okay. The batteries were fairy new 4200's. I was assuming the motor and ESC would be hot if it was overgeared. You know what they say about assumptions. Thanks for the info on the FDR. We'll try 10.5 or 11 next time out.
