fan wiring question
Hi just got a fan/heatsink combo from 3 racing wonder if anybody knows how to wire this. I got it thinking that it would just plug into the receiver. It does have
plugs both male and female hooked together with bare wires on the end.
Any pics or other useful info would be appreciated. Thanks

If the fans are 5 volt fans, you should probably plug them into the receiver. But if you have a speed control with low BEC output, like the QC2, then you might just want to hook them directly to the battery.

It looks like it says they are 2v? and I have a gtb. When you say wire it direct to the battery do you mean Y into the power wires of the esc? The plugs that come on this fan are not compatible with the receiver.
Thanks again PITCREW

2volt??? that seems really odd. Are there more than one fan?
The GTB has a good output on the BEC so hook them to the receiver.
But 2 volt?? If there are like 3 fans, you should wire them all in series if that is truly the case. They will burn up at the 6 volts the BEC puts out otherwise

I could be wrong I just see a 2v on the fan itself. One fan. No instructions or any useful info on the box.

definetly only plug into the receiver then.
I've never seen a 2volt fan.
It might burn up even, so keep an eye on it.

The 3 racing fans are 7.2v.

What if I use a 12v laptop cooling fan???
Would the blowing power be strong enough???
The only cooling fan I can find here locally are all rated at 12v.....(not for hobby but for computer use)

12v fans are too weak when powered by 7.2v sources, i suggest you get 6v or 7.2v fans and wire them directly to your batteries + & - for maximum power

the 3 racing fans/heatsink are 7.2volt, if you run them to the reciever (you will need to change the plug, it will run slow as and not do much and you will think you wasted your money, you need to go direct to battery power (how ever you can that is conveniet for you) it will run much better as it will have the correct voltage, (also note that the fan takes a minute or so to kick in , it will start slow and build up speed in the first 1 minute or so)
i have posted a pic of mine, (and i turned the fan around so it blows into the can , as sucking tended just to suck from the edges of heatsink not through the can, and just reversing the wires doesnt work, it will not run at all).
hope this helps

So does this means that 12V computer fans would not work with a 7.2V battery???
How slow is it anyway???

12v fans will still spin with 7.2v power but they will be too slow to have an effect on cooling. it is better if you find a 6v or 7.2v fan. if you have many choices, find the one with the highest CFM rating
