Hi

I was wondering what you have been finding for motor temperatures?

Like for a 27t motor what seems to be optimum temps for a 5 min race?

What have you seen as too hot for a 5 min race?

I had a temp guage but found it was wrong reading the temps and I have to start over with a new one.

If you aren't going to use the 2 second rule, then 140f to 180f on a temp gun is a good place to be with a stock motor. Above 200 and you have a problem some place.

place your finger on the motor and youll see

youll know if its too hot or its too cold..

I think the 2 second rule is good. I use it. I am at the point where I want to play more with temps and gearing.

Just my 2 cents, I'd try and keep it under 150 F. And I normaly tell people 5 seconds is about right. But a good temp gun is the way to go,

Dont forget the third rule it smells like its on fire.
Personally with stock 120 to 130 is probably the right temp.
I think that is the optimum performance range?

Motor temp is a funny thing.. Yes it's nice to have a cooler running motor,But now days motors best proformance are when there geared correctly for track your running. I know many top racers that for that added edge run way over 170*. Temp sometimes is HP,ya gota gear to where motor wants not temp. I run many times well over 190* outdoors and 175* indoors... Gear to where the motor runs best...

Third rule-
I like the 120-130 range myself. Sometimes I hit 140 or more and notice a falloff towards the end of a race. Once the falloff begins it just gets slower and slowerrr and slowerrrrrrrr and slowerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I agree with you, Tag. Trial and error with rollout for the fastest laptimes/overall times. Besides, with Intellect changing the cell every week, you really don't know what you are dealing with when it comes to the cells we're putting in our cars. This variable alone will have a drastic effect on temp.

Gear it to fast, regardless of temp. Don't worry about the motors life span, Uncle Ernie's got plenty of 'em...
