i still dont really get how that would mend the chassis togather!

Better than cigarrete ash (on terms of finishing and 'general cleaness'), I've used with success baking powder and very thin CA.

Call HPI. They had a problem and had a replacement program. I think the cracking was in holes around of the battery cutouts.
