Default 4 cell

4 cells with the 4300 brushless works just fine. much slower, but works fine.

Hey fellas. I know this thread is crazy old but I aquired one of these super sport speed controls recently. I tried hooking it up to a few different motors and it won't make any of them spin. The Bec works and the LED lights up and responds to throttle input but I get nothing from the motor. I thought I read something at some point about the sensor pins being laid out different on the old Novak motors but I don't know. I don't have any Novak motors to test so I'm not sure if the esc is junk or not. I looked in the manual and it says it only works with Novak motors but I think that may just be since Novak was one of the first players to the brushless game, possibly the first sensored. Anybody know if this esc works with other motors than Novak? Thanks.

Many of the old Novak systems required the motor to have a thermistor between pins 1 and 5 of the sensor connector, and would not work without it. If your motor doesn't have the thermistor (many don't), you can add a 10K resistor wherever it's convenient. (The sensor cable is usually an easy option).

Are you using a sensored motor (with sensor cable connected) ? Novak ESCs generally won't run sensorless motors. The temperature sensor shouldn't matter IF is not present. Many racers used to "accidentally" cut the blue wire to avoid thermal shutdowns.

I tested it with a tekin redline gen 1 and gen 2 motor also a trackstar motor. 6.5 13.5 and 17.5 none of them would even glitch or anything, zero response. The esc is probably bad I was just hoping maybe the sensor cable could be the issue. I got the esc in a parts lot along with an lrp ai but the ai only runs in reverse with a brushless motor, it works perfect with brushed though which I still run in most of my cars.

kutless aint the novak ss esc one that will only work with a novak ss motor I think so. due to slovaks lag in adopting sensor stands..

In the manual it does say Novak motors only, but like I said before it's one of if not the first mainstream brushless setups. And possibly the first sensored. It predates lipo cutoffs. So I thought maybe the reason it was Novak motors only is because nobody else had sensored motors out yet.

Novaks work fine with other motors. And they INVENTED the sensor standard.
Do any of the LEDs change when you pull the trigger? Maybe it just needs to be calibrated. I think a blue LED indicates an overtemp condition. There are other LED for other error codes. I found a online manual here:

I calibrated it and hooked it up to my motor and when I give it full throttle the motor does nothing but the LEDs blink green and blue which according to the manual means it's showing a locked rotor. When I give it reverse it hums very slightly then gives me the same error. Maybe I'll just keep an eye out for someone selling an ss motor cheap and then I'll know.

One other thing to check is correct sequence of motor wires:
A = blue
B = yellow
C = orange

Yep. I made sure they were in the right order, then I tried every other sequence and nothing. I also compared a standard sensor cable to the picture in the manual and all the colors are in the same order. I think I will try what howardcano suggested and install a resistor and see if that does it. It's silly that I'm putting so much effort into this esc that I really paid nothing for but I can't help myself. I guess I'm just a sucker for the old stuff. I even have some old 27t stock motors in a few buggies.

this esc will not work with other sensored motors. I remember running this system .. had to buy a whole new motor back then cuz the captured endbell sensored wire Novak used.. but try on..
