cheaper and does the same job, plus you can check cells individually whilst still in their packs, you can get graphs of each of your cells onto your PC so you get a really detailed picture

Repairs? you planning on testing it to destruction? I've never known anyone need to send theirs back for repair. There are regular updates but there has been nothing major in a while, just small things that I don't think anyone would notice, if you're wanting to be very uptodate then you'd probably want to send it back once a year but most updates can be done yourself, especially if you're handy with a soldering iron.
don't think there will be a US distributer any time soon, it's still a mostly one man operation as far as I know, no distributer means lower prices although it seems shops in Japan buy from him and then charge silly prices, when people in Japan could buy them direct for a lot less
edit: just checked the currency conversion, YIKES, it would be a lot for you, no saving on the GFX anyway. Things are getting better for me though, cheaper and cheaper to import from America
