Default discharging to 5 volts?

I was just wondering if it is o.k to discharge NiCD and NiMH cells to 5 volts.

Thanks

They recommend 5.4 volts(.9 vlots per cell), but 5 volts wont hurt them at all. The main idea it to leave a little voltage in the cells so they wont reverse poles.
