Hi friends. Greetings from Malta.
Sorry that sentence was a bit misleading.
But you all understood what I meant. It's not so strange really.
I think we've all been there. You get used to braking points with a mod car. You then put a slower motor in it and you find you are turning in too early, till you get used to it.
I find this most tricky on the last laps of a mod race, when you have been running 4 and a half minutes and got into a great rythm, trimming each corner perfectly, then in that last half minute the car starts to slow a bit and you start catching all the corner markers, because you are letting off or braking in the same spot you were doing it earlier.
No, even though I have run Yokes myself for some years and love them, I cannot find a bad word for the TC3. It is a great car. Certainly the most successful touring car in the last 5 years.

Got my new Yokomo carbon prop shaft, among other things.
Weighted the standard shaft, the modified TC3 shaft and the new Yoke Carbon shaft.
Standard alloy shaft weighed 12 grams.
Shortened TC3 graphite shaft weighed 5 grams.
New Yoke graphite/carbon shaft weighed 6 grams.
So if any of you guys were thinking of massacreing a TC3 shaft, don't bother. Go for the proper thing.
In the RC Chat forum I have been having great discussions about inserts. The plot thickens......and I am now even more confused than when I started.

First race with new car
Last night was my SDs first race. I have not raced stock for about a year, i have been racing 19T spec with faoms in my TC3 so this was different game with slower motors, rubber tires and re-learning the gear ratios.

I had not got my AE parts yet to complete the mod needed to get my AE springs on so i was stuck with only being able to install copper AE in the front and left the stock ones in the rear. Out of the box the car is so soft the chassis has got to be digging into the carpet! LOL
With my buds bumper installed i still took it easy, a friend of mine also was racing his for the first time and he was brave enough to go at it without the buds for the night.
For most of the night i was fighting a understeer problem. I was running CS22 all around wich i would have expected oversteer.
Results:
Qualified: P2
Finished: P2
DAMAGE: None
-From the start i knew i was stuck in 2nd or 3rd as a last minute motor swap from a friend of mine proved that i need to re-evaluate my gearing skills. I was at least 2 teeth too low on the pinion maybe 3! I was a dogg down the 80ft straight and that hurt lap times.
My freind also made the A but had motor problems.
Looking forward to my next race and hope to have full access to my AE springs.

shock towers
Here are pictures of prototype front and rear shock towers for the MR4TC SD. These towers offer 5 different top mounting positions for the shocks while the camber link holes are the same as on the standard items. The middle hole for the shocks, both front and rear, is the same as the outer hole on the standard towers so there are two holes further out from the standard position.
I know a lot of guys have been running the rear tower on the front to get more stand-up front shocks. With these you can do that but also have the possibility to run them in the standard positions.
The shock towers are machined out of 3mm twill weave carbon fibre.
Let me know what you think about these. If the response is good these shock towers might go into limited production.

You never answered a previous post of mine where I asked you if you had finished working with HPI in England, and were now back in Finland.
Nice towers. I like the radial top shock mounting holes.

Yes indeed. I run the AE shocks on both my Yokes and my son's TC3s. I find various advantages as follows:
The hex at the top of the shock body is great when servicing the shocks, using the plastic AE spanner. You don't massacre the shock body.
The shock holds a larger volume of oil.
The shaft is thicker and longer. I use their unobtanium shafts which are unbreakable.
I drilled a bleed hole on the top caps (ala Yoke) for making bleeding easier.
I find they are more leakproof than the Yoke shocks.
They take longer springs and allow for more travel.
Will be changing everything over to 12 turn mod on Monday, and will fit the locked front diff.
Will report later.

johnbull: I've been back in Finland for just over a year now. I could have stayed in the UK with HPI if I wanted...and I have to say it was hard to say no... But in the end I decided that I wanted to stay in Finland at least for some time, just for personal reasons. Since the Pro4 is still some time away I went with the SD for this summer and it's working great but I'm sure the Pro4 will work great as well when that's released.
About the shock towers... it's not me that has designed them but I will be testing them on my car in the next few days. Will also post some pictures of them mounted on my car maybe tomorrow. They're designed so that you won't have to re-set ride height when you change positions.
