Anyone know why Masami and Hara are using the bigger size servo's instead of the thin ones?

Marketing. Tamiya has the money but racing is not a huge deal for them.
I wouldn't say racing is not a huge deal for them. Tamiya was in Japan hosting a World Championship for amatuers. They run their own racing series where they actually send amatuer drivers from around the world to an all expense paid trip to Japan to race at the TCS Worlds. It is not a cheap series for them by any means. Some past TCS winners are Surikarn and Marc Rheinard which are not too shabby.

Trust me racing is very important to them.

Infact they, if I am not mistaken are the only chassis manufacturer to provide a test facility and host racing in multiple location around the world.

But it´s always the same in Japan. New cells one time only.
I have been there twice, so I´m not that worried this is " a must".
We needed new ones every run as well, and it was 6 cell at these events.
They have new tires for each and every run, incl. pratice as well.
Japan is fun, but somehow extreme
You are absolutely right.

At US Nationals (6 cell) the top mod drivers have new packs for every qualifier and every main. No one comes off the track with 1000mah anymore. If the grip is high (all US racing on asphalt and indoors is high grip) cars go soft for the last 2-3 laps.

FYI, this is not just Team Schumacher. Everyone knows everyone else and we all talk to each other.

Duration is really tight, not one person can actually make 5 minutes, they all go flat on the last 3 laps, watch the videos! Even Masami, Hara etc.

MrBlack, from your post, I hope that you didn't mean to imply that the guys at the TWC were noobs or anything, because it sounds like you are putting down those racers. In all fairness, they are rather accomplished racers on their own merit. I know a number of these "amatuers" could quadra-lap me on a (good for them/bad for me) day

I never meant, intended, or succeeded in implying anything about the skill level. You have done this. They are amatuers they are not pro drivers this is fact and as amatuer drivers they are the majority of racers in the world and Tamiya is behind them and therefore behind racing.

It is a point made to show that Tamiya invests a lot of money in the sport of racing not just hunting for trophies with there own drivers.

(Note Rtype and I are tight so there is no bashing going on here)

Here some photos from the event (TCS Worlds) showing it is not a cheap affair:

Imagine if the Pro Worlds or even National events where done this nicely?
