A Turbomatcher and IB4200WC question
 
Hi.

I am running some IB 4200 WC's thru my TurboMatcher and I am getting some rather poor figures. I was expecting some really nice stats, but all my results are in the 1.20x and 1.21x range, runtimes being in the same sort of mid 400 ie, "average" area.

So far I have run about 20 cells and have not had anything outstanding at this point, thus, I figure im doing something wrong.

TurboMatcher 4/35. Charge 6A. DisCharge 35A. CutOff 0.90v. PeakD .03

I am running a short repeak (200-400ma), discharge, and then a cycle. Most runs I am getting no more that 3800->4000 into the cells...

Feedback and/or help would be awesome, I am new to playing with the turbo matcher, and figure I must be doing something wrong. Plans of attack for this sort of thing, best practices, anything and everything will help at this point.

i think the reason matchers get higher figures than you is coz they also zap the cells.

what zappers are around on the market?

Use peak detect of .01. If you are using a .03, that is really hard on the cells. They must be ridiculously hot. Have you heard a lot of cells venting during the charge?

I have only had one vent so far at .03. A friend or two told me that this was the right setting, I was initially running with .01 and just wasnt seeing the results I expected.

This is why I am asking here, im new to the turbomatcher + IB's so trying to work out what im doing wrong.

Sounds like I had it right at the start, but just maybe need to look at a zapper?

I believe that a zapper is important part of the process before the cell matching begins, it is also important to get the right "kind" of zap. As different zapping procedures can change the cells numbers when they come off the matcher.

Thanks Scott, that was going to be my next big question, the matcher I think I have almost sorted, will just move back to .01 now.

I have found the INTEGY's XIPP DCX3300 battery Xapper and it looks like it could do what I need but its aparently designed for "cell maintaince". The zapper is the "great unknown" now. Will need to do more reading now.

Finding the correct process for zapping the cell I think will be another nightmare for me. If anyone is zapping IB4200's and would like to give me some feedback, drop me a PM.

where did you get these cells from? I have a 4200 WC and cant get any more than 3730 ma in them :mad:

If you want to zap raw cells, then you need an industrial virgin cell zapper, not something like Integy sell, those are just like they are labeled "maintenance" and only designed to break up crystalline build up on the cell plates.

Also, my 4200 cells charge to 4500+mah

When I run .01 I get no more than about the same as you...

When I run .03 i get upto 4000 in them, but they are HOT and thier runtime/voltages are usually the same anyways... but like was said eariler, I really cooked a few doing it trying to push the figures I expected from the IBWC's.

I have to assume considering the numbers people are selling the IB WC's with, they are zapping and I am not.

Looking for feedback on zappers now.. as It sounds like something else i need :P

Thanks for the feedback. I can only assume I am doing things right with what I have, but I need to give the cells a zapp to clean out any build up from when they were made/shipped and to me..

Very little information about zappers on the internet for this sort of thing... I will continue my hunt for one.

From what I've found, hotter cells = higher voltage and lower IR. I wouldn't expect to match numbers with those on the label of the cell if you buy matched packs. Your best bet is to learn what good numbers are on your matcher and go from there.
