Default motor guard idea

My Xray car took a good hit in the side and mangled the copper on the endbell of the motor. I doubt the factory motor guard would have helped at all, as it is so low and the other car would have rode above it. So I took a piece of an old foam bumper and shoe gooed it to the inside of my body right opposite the motor. Now a side hit will be cushioned. Thought I would share this idea and see if there is any reason this should not work.
