How to reuse the old wheel
Hi all,
Do you know how to effectively remove the tires from the wheels ? I want to re-use the wheels since I have lots of on-road rubber tires, mostly sorex wheels and some nylon material wheels .....
the CA glue is very strong ...
Really thanks for the help ....

Hi,
You can use acetone to do this (only method I know)
Remember that some wheels will completely solve in acetone, others can resist...
Proline wheels can resist and the CS preglued ones can't this I know
I use a glass bowl which I can close.
Put a few inches of Acetone in it. After put your tyres in or on top of the acetone. Than let them sit for a day or 2. The tyres will unglue and you will be able to remove them.
Be sure to close to bowl and to wear rubber gloves!!!
In case you wish to reuse the inserts remove them first... in case you want to reuse the tyres also (broken rim etc...) you may want to check every 4 hours for the glue to come loose. Sometimes the insert will vanish in the odours of the acetone...
hope this one helps

I've read that acetone works but, I also have heard that you can boil them for about 20 minutes. I haven't tried either one. I can't verify that these methods work. I've never reused any wheels. Maybe I'll try it one day, might save myself a few dollars. Good luck and let us know if it works.

Acetone melted my tamiya wheels.

the only wheels i've tried to reuse are my offroad wheels. I like baking them off opposed to boiling. I preheat the oven to 350, let them bake for 10-15 min., take them out and work the bead. they just pop right off. its a good idea to use a old cookie sheet and old oven mitts. my mechanic gloves were'nt quite heat resistant as i thought . but they come off easy and you don't have to worry about boiling water splashing around. after the tires are off and the wheels cool off, you can take the remaining ca off with a exacto knife. it will just flake off. hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice guys....
I did try with the Acetone... it really melted my wheels..... those Sorex and RIDE wheels. I don't think Acetone is a good choice .....
I will try some chemical substance ..... How about paint / glue remover ... any particular brand ?

ask yourself this, how much $ and how much time have you invested in " attemtping to re-use a set of rims,
Now ask your self this... would you rather pay aprox $0.90 a rim..

JasonC is right. You destroy a expensive tire to save a cheap rim.

Pete, to be honest i dont think this is possible, good luck. i know acitone in a can with tyres and rims in there works a treat for getting tyres off rims, stuffs tyrs but rims remain pefect.

Once I try this method succesfully on speedmind wheels,
but beware some wheels brand don't like heated above 90C and get deform badly,
