Matched LIPO's??

every one by now has felt the presence of lipo's. even if ur track doesnt allow them its more than likely some one is using them in their controller.
so ive got a question how come people dont match lipo? as nimh and nicd have shown all batteries are not created equal. wouldnt lipo be the same?
sure the voltage cutt of would be 3v but wont average voltage and runtime be measureable?
this is worry cayse if lipo's are this dear now can you imagine the price of matching? althought it might not be as bad a nimh as ur matching 2 cells not 6.
finally how does matching cells that are going to be used in parralel change? would it be purely dependent on runtime so as the hit 3v at the same time?
correct me if im wrong id like to know what the truth is. but to me this just seems the next logial step if lipo is to replace nimh.
cheers,
Josh

Josh, as it is with round cells, matching cells in a pack is only useful for a limited time, and its usefulness is inversely proportional to how good the manufacturer is. How good the manufacturer is is proportional to time. So, here in late 2006, any decent lipo pack is adequately matched.

Far better than matching is the ability to balance. All decent lipo packs have balance connectors. Balance once every 10 cycles and your lipo pack will be performing at its best.

BTW, the RC car guys have a big advantage here. The RC airplane and heli guys have been pushing lipo technology very hard for the last three years, and the result is that RC car guys start with great lipos.
